The roots of madder, known as Fouwa or Fou��a (???) in Arabic, have been used since Antiquity in hair care, plant-based dyes, and traditional medicines. Harvested and naturally dried, they are then ground into powder or used in decoction. Madder is particularly valued for its red coloring properties and its invigorating benefits for the scalp.

Instructions for use (hair care):
- Color:
- Grind into powder and mix with hot water (or henna)
- Apply on clean hair
- Leave on for 1 to 3 hours depending on the desired effect, then rinse off
- Decoction (for tonic rinse):
- Boil a handful of roots in water
- Let steep for 15 minutes
- Filter and use as a rinse water to stimulate the scalp
